STATUS OF MUMBAI URBAN TRANSPORT PROJECT (MUTP) IN BEST
Out of total estimated cost of Rs. 4526 Crs. Of the entire project, the BEST's component is Rs. 125 Crs. This amount is to be used for -

  • Procurement of buses for replacement of overaged buses.
  • Technical Assistance for Institutional Restructuring & Management Information System Study.

Out of Rs. 125 Crs., World Bank loan was Rs.118 crores and BEST counterpart fund was Rs. 7 Crs. As against this, actual cost will be Rs.106.26 Crs (i.e Rs.104.28 Crs. Towards buses + Rs.1.98 Crs towards consultancy as per tenders invited).

  • Procurement of Buses : M/s. Ashok Leyland Ltd. Was awarded a contract for supply of 644 single decker buses under MUTP. All these buses are EURO III standards. They are more eco-friendly and more passenger friendly. All these buses are received and pressed into service.
  • Institutional Restructuring Study and Management Information Study : TATA Consultancy Services Ltd. Was awarded the contract for Institutional Restructuring and MIS study for BEST. The study has commenced from 19th September, 2005. They have submitted their final report in February 2007 which is being studied for implementation.
